Barbara Bruederlin is a freelance writer and music nerd who left behind the world of neuroscience to focus on the arts community. Barbara writes web content for East Village Experience, is a regular contributor to BC Musician Magazine, a series writer with Cantos Music Foundation/National Music Centre, a music writer for Getdown.ca, and an oft-featured contributor to No Depression. An advocate for emerging musicians, artists and theatre companies, and a civic cheerleader, Barbara dabbles in concert promotion and convention planning.

Jennifer Cockrall-King is a freelance features writer with a particular interest in food security, urban agriculture and food-related social justice issues. More broadly, Jennifer writes travel and lifestyle features, as well as profiles and opinion pieces. She splits her time between the interior of BC and Alberta. She is also the author of the book Food and the City: Urban Agriculture and the New Food Revolution (Prometheus Books, 2012).

Karen D. Crowdis is an experienced writer and editor, with an Honours Degree in Communications. Her writing has appeared in Alberta Conservation’s Discovery Guide, Ottawa Outdoors, Birthing magazine, and corporate publications. In seven years as editor-in-chief at AMPA member Birthing magazine, Karen achieved much success, including an honourable mention for Editor of the Year at the 2011 Alberta Magazine Awards. Clinging to the rebel within, she listens to music too loud, wrote her honours thesis on heavy metal culture and denies driving a minivan.

Dawna Freeman is a freelance writer/editor who began her career in publishing as a reporter at the Edmonton Journal in the late 70s. She joined Saturday Night magazine in 1983 and returned to Edmonton in 2000, where she helped launch Cooking at Home magazine before joining Capital Health for eight years as writer/editor of its quarterly magazine. She now freelances for newspapers and magazines from her home in Spruce Grove, AB.

Spanning over two decades, Carl Patzel has been published in several magazines including Macleans, The Guardian, American Photo and airdrielife. Experience as a photographer/writer at daily newspapers has been a mainstay for Carl, who has garnished several newspaper awards while covering everything from features, oilsands, sports and anything else that comes his way. He currently provides freelance writing and photography in the Airdrie/Calgary area, most notably for airdrielife magazine and the Calgary Herald.
