Office Coordinator, RedPoint Media Group

RedPoint Media Group has an immediate opening for an energetic, organized and outgoing Office Administrator in our Calgary office.  The Office Administrator is the first point of contact for RedPoint, in person, over the phone and via the general email address.  This individual provides reception and administrative support to our dynamic company and occupies a key role within our company.  This full-time position reports to the Human Resources Manager.  Our hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 8:30 am – 5:00 pm.  Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Greeting guests in person and over the phone to RedPoint in a professional, friendly manner; responding to email inquiries and directly appropriately
  • Managing incoming and outgoing mail
  • Maintaining reception area, magazine display and archives
  • Assist with maintaining archives, stock rotation
  • Ensuring recycling area is organized
  • Maintaining and ordering office supplies
  • Maintaining overall office organization, including washroom & coffee re-stocking
  • Preparing cheque register daily
  • Coordinating shipping and receiving
  • Maintaining boardroom bookings and ordering catering as needed
  • Assisting the Human Resources Manager as required with office management and social events
  • May be asked to assist other managers in all areas of the company
  • Maintain local Intranet, and train new users

Graphic Designer - Dakota Design & Advertising

Dakota Design & Advertising, publishers of Alberta Country, Northwest Business and Western Horse Review magazines has an opening for a full-time senior level graphic artist. This position requires an individual who can multi-task effectively and work well within tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Successful candidates will have good communication skills, be comfortable working within a team and independently. In addition to designing advertising, advertising campaigns, magazine promos and magazine layouts, this position requires an organized person for file and image filing and archiving.


Candidates should have:
• A Graphic Arts diploma/degree
• Proficiency using Mac platforms and an in-depth understanding of the entire Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator and Acrobat)
• Some and preferably plenty of work experience within a magazine or newspaper environment
• Website, creative writing, photography and drawing skills would be bonus attributes, but not necessities

Art Director - Dakota Design & Advertising

This position requires an individual who can art direct one, two or three of our magazines. Successful candidates will have good communication skills, be comfortable working within a team and independently. In addition to designing the magazine, the individual will be expected to design and produce advertising, advertising campaigns, magazine promos and magazine layouts, as well as oversee and work with an in-office graphic artist. This is a contract position.

Editor – Alberta Country Magazine

Alberta Country is a bi-monthly consumer, controlled circulation newspaper-size magazine for busy, affluent country dwellers who need inspiring, authentic and smart information on realizing their dream life. Alberta Country’s coverage is modern, gives easy to digest solutions to country living, crisp content on lifestyle and issues, and also has witty commentary on entertainment, trends, real estate, people and destinations.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
• Working closely with publisher to develop, investigate and generate new topics
• Writing and editing feature articles, news updates and departments for all publication
• Editing and proofing all editorial content
• Working with and coordinating with production to ensure appropriate design, art and layout to meet scheduled deadlines
• Reading and evaluating material submitted for publication
• Networking with the industry

QUALIFICATIONS:

• The ideal candidate should have 2 to 4 years of print writing and editing experience, ideally in a magazine or newspaper environment publishing under regular deadlines
• Proven ability to work with a small team in a busy environment
• Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks in an organized manner
• Ability to work to tight deadlines
• Strong attention to detail
• A good understanding and feel for acreage living

Editorial Contract Position - Canadian Wine Annual - RedPoint Media Group

Wine Access, published six times a year, is a national wine and food magazine with editors and writers spread out across Canada. Our Canadian Wine Annual, published every May, is the definitive guide to all the wineries in Canada. As the Canadian Wine Annual intern, you will be a fundamental part o the publication of this highly successful magazine. You will oversee all fact-checking, editing copy, working directly with writers and art teams, sourcing images and helping produce visuals (maps) for the entire book. As this is a short-term contract position, we are looking for someone with the drive and skills to work independently, and who takes pride in their work. Editorial Internship, Wine Access magazine – RedPoint Media Group

Wine Access, published six times a year, is a national wine and food magazine with editors and writers spread out across Canada. Our Canadian Wine Annual, published every May, is the definitive guide to all the wineries in Canada. We also run two nationally respected wine competitions, the International Value Wine Awards and the Canadian Wine Awards. Our website has one of the largest wine databases in Canada, and you can be a part of it all.

As the Wine Access intern, you will write, edit, fact-check and help manage content for the Wine Access website. As well, you will be responsible for fact-checking, proofing, photosourcing and writing “Latitudes” for each issue of Wine Access. Other responsibilities include various administrative intern-type tasks, including trafficking items for photo shoots and helping arrange wines for photo shoots and competitions. You may also be required to attend and work at different magazine-related events (including wine tastings and competitions).

Avenue magazine, Calgary’s award-winning city lifestyle magazine, seeks an editorial intern for a four-month term from January to April 2009.

 

You need to be an engaging writer and tenacious fact-checker interested in bringing the printed word across various multi-media platforms.  In this role, you will write, research, fact-check, interview and coordinate, all the while ensuring the accuracy and quality that Avenue magazine is known for.  Other responsibilities include various administrative intern-type tasks, including picking up items for photo shoots and doing a lot of general frenzied running around.

Avenue magazine is Calgary’s award-winning premier lifestyle magazine.  We are seeking a Web Intern to join our dynamic team from January to April 2009 

Responsibilities will include the following: 

  • entering changes into InCopy files
  • entering web copy on the website
  • entering the copy for the newsletter
  • working with the Associate Editor on the website and newsletter
  • writing for the website and newsletter
  • writing for the magazinefact checking for the magazine and website
  • picking up and dropping off items for photo shoots
  • helping to proof the magazine, website and newsletter
  • basic photo resizing and cropping for web content. A working knowledge of Photoshop would be an asset.
  • Attendance and coverage of events for magazine and website content
  • Other duties as assigned
