Assistant Publisher, Venture Publishing

This is an outstanding opportunity to learn the business of publishing from the ground up. Working closely with the Publisher and Associate Publisher, the Assistant Publisher will provide support to senior management. The role interacts with design, editorial, circulation, administration, finance, digital, events and sales departments for Alberta Venture, Alberta Oil and a stable of custom magazines. Key areas of activity will be:

  • Identifying marketing opportunities for print and online advertising sales, circulation department and events division
  • Developing marketing materials as required
  • Preparing proposals for advertising and custom publishing clients
  • Developing project budgets
  • Establishing and oversight of project timelines
  • Assisting sales team in meeting advertising budgets
  • Assisting management in identifying opportunities in traditional and new media business lines

This role requires excellent writing and communications skills, interest in sales and marketing, administrative skills and business education. The right candidate will be passionate about magazines as well as savvy about digital and new media development. You must be a team player who is able to show initiative and demonstrate practical creativity. A sense of humour is mandatory.

Responsibilities include:

  • Uploading of web copy and imagery on the website
  • Creation of copy for the Avenue e-newsletter(s)
  • Working closely with the Web Editor on the website and newsletter

GMCC Intercamp Managing Editor

The Students' Association of Grant MacEwan University (Edmonton) employs several part-time students and full time staff, who develop and provide award-winning services and programs, ensuring the best possible experience for MacEwan students.

The Managing Editor is responsible for all aspects of the two major Students’ Association publications, Intercamp, the weekly newspaper, and the student handbook, The Interpreter.
