Executive Administrator - Birthing Magazine

Birth Unlimited (www.birthunlimited.ca) is a non-profit society which was incorporated in 1982. In 1997, we launched Birthing Magazine. Birthing Magazine’s current print distribution is 10,000 copies. In March of this year, we launched our completely redesigned website.
Birthing Magazine is growing rapidly and looking for a new team member to assist in furthering its vision beyond Calgary. Reporting to the Editor in Chief of Birthing Magazine with a dotted line to the President of Birth Unlimited, the Executive Administrator will become our “go-to person”, working closely with staff and working board of directors as we help families by sharing birth knowledge and experience and supporting each other through the childbearing year and beyond.
Job Duties / Responsibilities:
- Oversee the financial operations of Birth Unlimited and Birthing Magazine including managing, analyzing and reporting for the general and casino accounts on a quarterly basis; reviewing outlook quarterly and coordinating annual budget.
- Support the establishment and implementation of Birth Unlimited and Birthing Magazine information management systems and tracking and reporting systems; generate accurate reports.
Skills / Experience Requirements:
- Minimum ten years operational management experience preferably in the non-profit sector.
- Relevant post secondary degree or certification; strong bookkeeping, accounting and budgeting skills including knowledge of and recent experience with Alberta gaming regulations.
- Outstanding oral and written communication skills including a proven record of successful grant writing and reporting.
Key Core Competencies;
- Technical Skills: Demonstrates technical competence and knowledge in bookkeeping, accounting, casino reporting, grant writing and reporting.
- Initiative: Confidently and competently manages information management systems to ensure timely distribution of information, maintenance of accurate and complete records, seamless co-ordination of events, seeks additional sources of funding as appropriate.
- Teamwork: Builds team capacity relative to education and awareness initiatives, branding, magazine publishing and special events planning by being innovative and by continuously improving processes; works with the staff and board to ensure high performance.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Editor in Chief, you will work remotely from a home office. You will excel at:
• Identifying prospective clients and set targets in line with organization philosophies
• Cold calling to get to the decision maker
• Creating and selling advertising packages for potential clients
• Upselling existing advertisers and cross selling with print
Qualifications:
• Five or more years of proven sales experience
• Comfortable cold calling
• Able to plan and achieve sales goals through business development
• Proficiency in word, email, internet, social networking sites and solid grasp of technology and website lingo to effectively communicate to client needs
