Subscriber Services Manager, RedPoint Media Group Inc.

Description:

RedPoint invites applications from outgoing, organized individuals for the position of Subscriber Services Manager. This position reports to the Circulation and Distribution Manager.

Overall responsibilities include:

  • Customer service — handling phone calls and emails from subscribers with questions, renewing subscriptions, address changes, new subscription orders, requests to mail issues and other inquiries.
  • Database management — all new subscriptions, renewals, address changes, cancellations, etc. must be entered into our databases and hard copies filed and maintained.       
  • Renewal mailings/e-mailings sent on a monthly basis.
  • Monthly mail merges, envelopes labelled and stuffed, packaged and shipped to mailing house.
  • Assist in marketing strategies to grow readership for several publications.
  • Updating subscription order pages on our websites.
  • Other duties will include helping prepare for audits, shipping magazines, filing, assistance with producing subscription forms, checking newsstands, etc.
  • Representing RedPoint magazines by selling subscriptions at shows/events.
  • Maintaining and organizing our garage/storage space.

Qualifications: 

Required skills and qualifications include:

  • Experience in circulation or subscriber services is valued but not required, as we will train.
  • Fast and accurate in data entry
  • Comfortable using custom databases
  • Skilled with Microsoft Office — specifically Excel and utilizing mail merge functions
  • Excellent communication skills

Managing Editor, Avenue magazine

Avenue magazine is Calgary’s award-winning city lifestyle magazine, delivering an intelligent and provocative perspective on the city. Engaging with the active and sophisticated reader, Avenue showcases Calgary’s architecture, personalities, arts and culture, fashion, dining, outdoor and urban life.

Description:

As managing editor you will be responsible for maintaining the budget, invoicing, scheduling and workflow of Avenue magazine, as well as its related products (newsletters, events etc.) and coordinating the efforts of the editorial team to successfully complete all procedures and assignments in a timely manner.

Overall responsibilities include:

  • You will work with the executive editor, creative director and publisher to help prioritize the editorial tasks and ensure accurate and timely reporting of the budget and schedule to the whole team.
  • You will be responsible for maintaining and elevating Avenue’s high standards for accuracy by coordinating all the fact-checking on the magazine’s content, ensuring the process is timely, accurate and properly executed by working with a group of interns and freelance fact-checkers, as well as maintaining clear fact-checking records.
  • You will complete the first proof of the magazine, checking grammar, spelling, punctuation and general layout, and ensure the proper entering of changes on all proofs.
  • You will liaise with the Publisher and Director of Sales to report on the magazine content and proposed story lineups and to establish the page counts and budgets for each issue.
  • You will maintain the contributor database, create the contributor mailing list for each issue and manage the contributor bios in the magazine.
  • As part of the Avenue editorial team, you will attend brainstorming sessions and make suggestions for story and theme ideas.
  • In addition to your responsibilities for the style content, you will also compile and write the monthly arts notes and sales reports.

  • Experience proofreading and fact-checking for magazines.
  • An ability to manage a group of people working on a variety of tasks to complete short-term and long-term projects.
  • A track record of results and a reputation for outstanding organizational, writing and editorial skills in a fast-paced environment.

Description:

Odvod Publishing Inc., the publisher of Avenue magazine in Edmonton, is looking for an editorial intern for a paid six-month term, tentatively commencing March 19, 2012.

We're looking for a tenacious writer and fact-checker interested in getting his or her hands into pretty much everything. Your responsibilities will run the gamut from writing, researching and fact-checking to various administrative intern-type tasks, including picking up items for photo shoots, database maintenance and a lot of frenzied running around. As well, you will be responsible for writing and updating online listings for AvenueEdmonton.com.

Avenue, Edmonton's pre-eminent city magazine publishes 12 issues annually. The magazine is produced by Odvod Publishing Inc., a company jointly owned by Odvod Media Corp. of Edmonton and RedPoint Media Group, publisher of the award-winning Avenue magazine in Calgary.

Qualifications:

A successful candidate will have a post secondary education in journalism or a related field and at least a year of experience in media. You write, edit and proofread effectively and have great communication skills. Your skill set includes fluency in Microsoft Office and website publishing. Adobe InDesign would be an asset.

The internship is subsidized by the Alberta Magazine Publishers Association. To qualify, a candidate must not have graduated before March 2010.

Description:

  • Data entry of subscribers’ names and addresses

  • Writing and sending letters and other administrative duties

  • Coordinate the mail out of the magazine every month

  • Produce shipping instructions for the press
