The Magazine School (TMS2011) for Publishing Programs(posted December 16, 2011) Provided by The Western Magazine Awards, The Magazine School (TMS2011) is available for download, free-of-charge, for any instructor or professor of a Canadian post-secondary magazine publishing program. TMS2011 contains six components, each a winning entry in the 29th Annual Western Magazine Awards. This year features: Chris Koentges ("The Campaign in Full Sentences," Swerve); Eve Joseph ("Intimate Strangers," Malahat Review); Claudine Gervais ("Life in the Fur Lane," Going Places); Chuqiao (Teresa) Yang ("Beijing Notes," Grain Magazine); Danae Thompson ("Preparing the Vessel," Swerve); and John Sinal ("Structural Change," Vancouver Magazine). These winning entries are examined from several perspectives; students will learn from the writers, photographers, editors, and art directors about how the entry went from an idea, through development, and into a finished magazine piece. Each component has two-parts: the winning entry and a PowerPoint presentation that can be used in the classroom. An instructor guide is also available.
