Magazines=Money. Mags show highest ROI over other media.

Are you an advertiser looking for the best return on investment? You'd do well then to advertise in magazines. According to a study posted in MediaDaily News by Marketing Evolution, magazines are the most cost-effective medium, beating out TV (which gets the most ad dollars) and online in both brand familiarity and intent to purchase.

In terms of brand familiarity, magazines reached 181 people per $1000 compared to 100 for TV and 101 for online. In terms of dollars, advertising in magazines cost $1.40 per capita to increase brand familiarity, versus $2.61 for TV and $2.58 for online.

Magazines came out on top in terms of purchase intent, influencing 145 people (compared to 100 for TV, 68 for online). In terms of the cost to create such impact, magazines cost $1.23 per person, versus TV's $1.77 and online's $2.61.

Alberta Mag Industry worth Millions

The magazine publishing industry is thriving, leading periodical publishing in the prairie provinces. A study by Rowland Lorimer and Associates found that the industry in Alberta is now larger than periodical publishing in BC, where historically, the reverse was the case. There are about 200 magazines currently published in Alberta. Lorimer used Statistics Canada data and surveyed 72 magazines, collecting financial, circulation, staffing and qualitative data. Major findings include:
- The 2008 value of the Alberta magazine industry is estimated at $83.4 million in revenues.
- The industry contributes 829 full-time jobs and $35 million to the wage economy.
- Alberta’s share of the prairie provinces’ is 40%.
- Advertising accounts for 92.7 percent of magazines’ revenue.
