Professional DevelopmentAMPA aims to strengthen Alberta’s magazine industry by filling it with well-trained professionals. To achieve this, we offer a variety of targeted learning opportunities through which magazine workers can connect with national experts to hone skills, find fresh approaches to old problems, and gain motivation. Every March, AMPA presents the Alberta Magazines Conference, the largest magazine publishing conference in Western Canada. Other popular learning programs are available throughout the year. Pros on the RoadPros on the Road matches industry experts with member magazines to consult on topics such as advertising, circulation, promotion, editorial content, design, production, financial administration, or electronic media. The program provides one-on-one training, typically through a day-long working session.
How can I apply?
Choose an area in which you would like a consultation, then download a member application and apply to the AMPA office. If you have special projects or plans you'd like to discuss with the consultant, be sure to indicate these in your application. What’s the cost?
SeminarsAMPA holds professional development events throughout the year. In the past, we’ve addressed topics from story packaging to readership research to ad sales. These popular seminars are open to the public, and AMPA members attend at discounted rates. A limited number of bursaries are also available for members travelling to seminars from out of town—just another advantage of becoming a member.
